1996 Chevy Blazer periodically stopping

I just bought my 1996 chevy blazer 6 weeks ago, there were no problems with it until lately. I was on my way to work and it just stopped, I thought that maybe I needed gas so I got gas and it stopped again.

everytime I start it up it starts, but when it dies my battery light comes on. My last car had the same problem and I was told that it needed a fuel pump or fuel filter. I just need to know what is going on, because I need my vehicle for school and work.
