My new to me 4wd let me down in the first real heavy snow and actual first use. It has the electronic shift. When engaging you here the noise of shifting in either high or low. It holds back like it should (like the feeling of low range) put there is no engaging of the front wheels. Please tell me this is a easy fix. Been problematic since I bought. But it was a one owner and very nice shape. By the manual instructions I am shifting it correctly ! THANKS FOR YOUR HELP

Sounds like the vacuum actuator for the front diff. It is located under the battery. Remove the vacuum line first and verify vacuum signal to it when in 4wd, if it has vacuum the actuator is most likely bad.

I agree with 2CarPro Jack, I would aso check the vaccum switch ontop of the transfer case. These get crap in them and stick alot also.
