From a stop, the Blazer goes along a bit & then BAMS into 1st gear! It's idling VERY high & cannot 'kick it down' to make it stop. Do have a "check engine light on" & mechanic says i need a thermostat; that it wasn't reading 'hot' enuf.

However replaced that not long ago.

Someone said it sounded more like a EGR problem Or an idle speed control motor. Are these things all related somehow? The heater inside seems to work well. Also, car seems to have no power going uphill & makes a funny noise while doing so.
I am a 'mere woman' & all this is Greek to me. But want to get to the root of this problem as am using TONS of gas as well!
Can you help Please?
Thanks!

Hi:

I want you to do something for me. Take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and ask them to scan the computer for trouble codes. If the check engine light is on, there will be a code and it will identify where the problem is coming from. When you find out, let me know the code and I'll direct you.
