1991 Chevy Blazer speedometer failure

Speedometer failed, took it to a shop that said the cable was most likely broken by the transmission, and sent me to a tranny shop who told me that it didn't HAVE a cable, and was electronic in the dash. Which is it? Ii's an s10 blazer with 4.3l 4x4.

Its controlled by a vehicle speed sensor, no cable. There is a sensor located on the transfer case that tells the speedo how fast you are going. Id start there. Hope this helps. Feedback and votes are much appreciated.
