The brake pedal gets loose or mushy half way?

I have a 1989 chevy beretta with 150,000 miles, automatic, and have a minor problem braking. Sometimes when I'm stopping the brake pedal gets loose or mushy half way through my stop and I have to release it and pump it again just to stop. It has new brakes and the fluid is full and doesn't leak. Some have said it might be a vacuum hose but I don't know.

Yes, the brake master cylinder is the one cause of this problem, here is a guide to help and instructions for your car in the images below.

1. Disconnect wire connector from brake warning pressure switch.
2. Disconnect brake lines from master cylinder.
3. Remove two master cylinder mounting nuts, then the master cylinder.
4. Reverse procedure to install.
