We have a 1996 Chevy Berette we just been given. It had sat outside all winter - and not been run at all. We tried to start it (jumping it - battery is dead) and it would fire, run for about 4 seconds then die. We got to checking things over and found it had a bad coil pack (1 and 4). Replaced coil pack with new one - then the car would not fire at all (cranks - but doesn't fire). We have both spark and fuel - but are at a loss as to what else the problem could be.
Someone suggested that the headgasket might be blown. Would this cause the car to not fire? Should we start looking for a replacement motor - or keep plugging along with this one?
