1988 Chevy Beretta idle problem

When we start the car, the idle goes bad, then stalls. tried to plug in computer for codes but the dash warning lights won't come on. fuses are good.

Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Also, I don't believe that you use a scanner on this year car. There is a plug that a jumper is used in to cause the check engine to flash. Is that what you are doing? Also, when was the last tune up with a new fuel filter? Finally, have you checked fuel pump pressure?
