2007 Chevy Aveo, 51250 miles, automatic, front wheel drive, 4 cyder,

1st put key in car, start car, put it would not get out of park, mess around with it read manual, push down on the slot they have in front of shifter, OK, on my way,

then stop 5 min later, turn off car, key will not come out of initiation? So I took battery cable off thinking might need to reset computer, while cable was off key would come out of initiation. OK now I got to put key cable back on key in and then go, also now when car on or off and I do not step on break pedal, the shifter will go up and down, just replace battery yesterday and same thing is still happening, SO HELLO, LOL, Please help if can, thank you, Scott

Follow this info, Shifter Stuck in Park. Before replacing any components, verify correct operation of the Stop Lamp Switch. Check for proper adjustment of the switch, poor electrical connection at the switch or incorrect operation of the switch contacts and repair as necessary. It has been identified that the brake switch is more likely the cause compared to the shifter assembly.

Do NOT replace the shifter unless the brake switch has been replaced or adjusted and the condition returns again. Try this first, then will go to the next step.

Had the same problem, two things to check. One it's not shifting in to park, you can open the small panel on the passenger side of the middle console. Shift and move the leveler (spring attached) at the same time. 2nd you 30amp fuse that located in the engine compartment is bad or not getting full contact. Yes your fuse maybe good but not making full contact. I replaced all my fuse and still had the same problem and finally banged the fuse box in the engine compartment, which fixed the problem.
