What would make the steering wheel shake at 40 to 50 mph when applying the brake or not apply the brake?

Hi there,

Tyre is the Australian spelling for Tires sorry...
So if the vibration is still there with the rotation & balance done, we will look a bit deeper, If the vibration is only with breaking have the brake rotors checked as they can warp and cause this vibration, also have the suspension inspected for ball joints, bushes, tie rod ends and loose steering components, check wheel bearings as well, this vibration will be with in suspension or steering if felt in the steering wheel.
