Stalls at Idle

The problem is that the engine frequently stalls at idle. I can keep this from happening by giving it some gas to keep the engine speed up. A check engine light comes on sometimes but goes away so I have not been able to read the code.

What puzzles me is that sometimes it stalls out almost every time it is in idle, and other times it has no problems at all. Could it be a lose connection somewhere or a bad value at startup?
