2006 Chevy Aveo diognastics computer

I am wondering if it is true that only GM dealers have the correct computer to diagnose problems with the chevy aveo-I was told that the place I took it-Goodyear-wouldn't have the proper computer capability and only my dealer would.

Dealers normally have the proper equipment because thats all they work on, a place like goodyear, pep boys, firestone etc. Normally bye generic scan tools and equipment that dosent always work and do the job. My opinion I would just go to the dealer, most places dont have good equipment and just send it to the dealer anyway.
