2007 Chevy Avalanche Loud Noise When Putting Truck in Gear

For the last few weeks the truck is making a loud clunking noise when I put it in gear. It's most obvious when the engine is cold. If it's been running awhile and I change gears, it doesn't seem to make the noise (or at least, not as loud).

do the easy stuff first. check your ujoints for wear and or rust. if you see rust around the caps replace them. then check yoru rear end for excessive play. if it's not excessive then take it to a pro and have him look at it.
