2003 Chevy Avalanche Two Wheel Drive Automatic 73970 miles

my speedomater just started staying on a high speed while sitting still.it says i'm doing 70 when i am in park.is there something i can do to fix the problem myself

It sounds like you have a bad vehicle speed sensor. Has the check engine light come on? IS the transmission shifting properly?
