2002 Chevy Avalanche Intake Manifold Gasket

I am replacing a knock sensor on my truck and in order to get to it i had to remove the intake manifold. I bought a new gasket for it just to be on the safe side. Do I need to apply a silicone sealant to the gasket before installing it?

you can use a thin layer on the outside. i always use it. its not necessary tho unless the directions call for it.
