2002 Chevy Avalanche V8 Two Wheel Drive 80000 miles
I will be installing my fourth set of emergency brake shoes. I'm not sure if both sides were replaced before but I'm fed up with the repeats so I'm doing it myself. I never use my emergency brakes.
Now, I have the drum off and the alignment bracket. I am unable to remove the shoe. It is just smaller in diameter than the axle hub. Am I supposed to spread the shoe or remove the axle? I'm starting to think maybe that was how it was done before and probably what cracked the brake material. Thereby allowing it to rub on the drum until it broke apart. What are your thoughts and how do I replace the shoes? Thanks, Phil
