2002 Chevy Avalanche a/c quits cooling some times

2002 Chevy Avalanche V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

some times the a/c compressor clutch disengages. every thing cools fine but some times it stays off and some times it cools all day..

Could be freezing up due to air and moistrure forming ice and blocking off the orifice tube.
