The thermostat is located inside a housing, which is attached to the front of the cylinder head (2.5L) or to the front of the intake manifold (4.3L).

The earlier brief thermostat-removal instructions were incomplete. Confirm the installed engine and obtain its service procedure before opening the system or removing a housing. Let the engine cool fully and never remove a coolant pressure cap while the system is hot or pressurized. Follow the specified draining, replacement, fastening, refilling and bleeding procedure.
