Chevy Astro Van, 1992, V6 4.3L (not Vortec) 299,000 miles don't laugh. (One owner)
The Van does not burn any oil, oil pressure is real good. All cylinders are within tolerances for compression. The thing died one day without any complications noted (May 07). Towed to garage and it started up without problems. Fuel pressure down, R/R fuel pump and filter. Still was having same problems, R/R the distributer also, still problem. R/R plugs, wires and distributor cap and roter, still having problems. R/R the a/c (it just stopped). Sunday Nov 4th it was still missing or cutting out and I stopped at a traffic light and it died. Came back 26 hours later and it cranked without problems, still hesitates. You can be on flat surface, downhill or uphill, idleing and it will hesitate. Not all of the time.
seems to run better at lower outside temps (below 50) than higher. Any ideas except replace the engine because it feels to me to be something else. I do not think replaceing the engine will solve the problem?

Two items I would look at the first thing I would do is look at the EGR. I have a 96 and had a 89. The 89 had 400+kms before son got in a accident, the 96 has 340+kms and running fine. Around 200k the EGR started acting up $300 - $400 for the part. I took it out (two bolts and one elec conector) and soaked it in carb cleaner and cleaned it out really good with fine sand paper (crocus cloth) got all the carbon out and it has worked good ever since. The second thing I would look at is the catallyt convertor plugging up. $80 at parts source plus clamps and a warm garage. (Magna flow odbcII)
