Fuel pump I think

I have a 1997 chevy pick k1500 4x4will run for a little while the just cut off. After a while it wiil start back up. Now I can not get to run at all can you help

Start with chwecking the fuel system. When you turn the key on you hear the fuel pump run? When has the fuel filter been change?
