how can I tell a 2 wheel drive from a 4 wheel drive without lifting up the van ? also what is the difference between a awd and a 4wd?

All wheel drive is on all the time. 4WD is selected. If your van has 4wd, you can tell by looking the front of the vehicle for a differential (similar to the rear one). If you are unsure, take a picture the front axle for me and upload it.
