2003 Chevy Astro rear end repairs

I have been told by my mechanic, who is someone I trust that my rear axle needs alot of work. I am wondering if the rear axle is compatible with all AWD rear axles from chevy astros or gmc safaris, or the years that would be the same rear axle on those vans

Hi:
Yes, the same year axle will work, BUT!!!!!!! it must have the same gear ratio. If it's different, the front and rear axleas will fight each other because one will be turning faster than the other.
