My 2000 Astro 'Service AWD' light comes on about 50% of the time for the last 6 months. When ever the ignition is turned on and you hear about 5 to 6 clicks below the dash the AWD light comes on. I had a few service technicians had a look at it; only one seems to be to figure the problem after scanning the vehicle and spending a few hours on checking the electrical system at no charge. He thinks the problem is the Transfer case shift control module located below the dash on the driver side kick panel. He is not a 100% sure.
Does anyone have such a problem, what's the solution?
Also can I change the module myself, I was told it has to be changed by a GM dealer because the system need to be reprogrammed?
What's the procedure to change the Module?

I wish I had a better answer for you, but this is the one that I have. With all of the information that you stated in your post, you failed to say if the All Wheel Drive still works. I have had 5 Astro's. On my current one, I have had a warning light for 2 years. Everything works great. Mileage and Power is great. If your van serves you well, don't worry about it. I know that is not the answer that you were expecting, but if everything seems OK, you can expect very little benefit versus the money that you would throw at it to turn off a warning light.

Now, if you could come back with some kind of problematic symptom, we or I can deal with that, but you never stated one.

I am not a professional mechanic, but I know Astro's.
