Drove around on spare tire on front passenger for six months. Two days ago going down highway get to about thirty and "clunk, clunk, clunk". Stopped once I applied brake. Jacked up and driver side axle can be moved back and forth from differential. Also evidence of leak from differential. How can I get the axle back in place and check differntial oil?

If the axle has come out of the differential, there is other problems. As far as the differential, there is a plug on the side of the differential. Using a 3/8"drive ratchet without a socket, you can remove it. The gear lube should be to the bottom of the plug you remove.

Let me know about the axle. Did it come out or does there seem to be a bad bearing in the differential?
