1999 Chevy Astro overheating

1999 CHEVROLET ASTRO

When idling at a stop light our van will start to overheat and once driving again the temp will start to go back down. So it only overheats when stopped. Would it be the thermostat or water pump causing this? Any other ideas?

More than likely you have a fan clutch going bad, the fan is not turning fast enough to move air through the radiator to cool it down.
