My AC works but only blows out the defrost or the bottom it will not switch to the main vents

Most likely a vacuum leak. Vacuum from the engine is what the dash control uses to move the diverter flaps that change the air flow.
I think the Astros had a plastic ball under the hood....hooked to the under side of hood. This is a vacuum reservoir.
