Hi there,
If at a join in a pipe there will be an "O" ring seal, if a cracked pipe, the pipe will have to be replaced, the refrigerant will have to be removed if any still in system and the whole system will need to be vacuumed down and teated after the repair, you should also be replacing the receiver dryer as well at this time.
