Engine Performance problem
1994 Chevy Astro 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive 228, 00 miles

Saturday I was low on gas so stopped and put approximately 6.5 gals in tank. A few miles down the road my van started coughing and chugging and the fumes were obnoxious. I put in a bottle of injector cleaner. When I got on the freeway the check engine light came on. I stopped and checked water and oil. Got back on freeway and van ran better. Later, coming home, van started missing real bad again and check engine light came on. Sunday, drove on city streets and van was still running poorly. Monday, Tuesday and today, drove to work and back, approx. 2 miles each way. No check engine light but had to drive with one foot on brake and one on gas pedal or the van would die. Did I get bad gas? Should I change fuel filter? I put about 3.5 gals of gas in today as was getting low again but haven't driven far enough to tell if that helped.

Hi there,

I would say you have a case of contaminated fuel, change the filter and fill the tank with premium fuel, add more injector cleaner, I think this should pass in time.
