I have an 88 Astro van and its time to replace the forward universal joint on the drive shaft. Here my problem. There is none of the usual retainer clip as on the rear side Ujoint, abut there are these little plastic Pins?. How do I remove the joint so I can replace them. The rear ujoint is like most of the others I have replaced before, having retainer clips. But this one has puzzled me. Help please.... Moto

Hello
Those plastic pins are actually where the manufacturer has injected nylon to retain the joint, the best way to remove is to heat up the yokes. What will happen is as the nylon gets hot it will expand out the holes like a worm when it stops coming out stop heating let it cool then you will be able to remove the joint, the new joint will have inside snap rings to retain it instead of the nylon. You can use a propane torch to heat it.
