I just purchased an 88 Astro Van. The air conditioner barely works. I am trying to find out what type of refrigerant this van uses.

I believe the 88 still had R-12. However, it is no longer available. It has been replaced with R-134A. It will need retrofitted to accept the new freon. Basically, they replace the recharge port with a different size fitting.
