check gauges light turns on

My check gauges comes on every now and then while driving if i put it in neutral the light goes off. What is this light for and what does it do or for?

This happens when the gauge response starts to become too slow, are all the gauges working? I would check the coolant level and engine oil to start and monitor the engine oil pressure and temperature. If all else fails a rebuilt cluster would fix it. This video will show you how to change it out:
