It was recommended to me to replace the distributor in my car since it has been stalling at idle. I did that over the weekend and almost had to pry the old distributor out but I was finally able to get it out. I replaced it with a new distributor and not rebuilt and had the same problem getting it back into the engine. It was very tight. I did not want to bang on the distributor with a regular hammer but did use a rubber mallet and got it just about all the way in. There is about the width of a quarter between the distributor and the engine block. I did notice that when a mechanic replaced the distributor before either he did not get the distributor all the way in or there is another problem as there is quite a bit of oil laying on my transmission. Will that be a problem not getting the distributor to flush mount with the engine.
I started the car up and it ran fine except the engine light is on now where it was off before. I tried to pull some codes but nothing came up. What might be going on?
Also, when I removed the battery and the tray I saw that the left transmission mount was totally wasted. How difficult is it for a backyard mechanic to replace something like that?
