My check engine light came on yesterday and is flashing pretty fast. My car is now running rough. It feels like it is gonna stall. Especially when stopped.

It sounds like you have a vacuum leak causing the engine to try and stall when coming to a stop. We should run the codes though to see what comes up. Here are a few guides so you can go over them and find the problem.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

and

and

Please run some tests and get back to us so we can keep helping you.

Cheers, Ken

I have a kia rio 2006, and my check engine light went on and my car started******** when I changed gears, only when I switch into drirve or reverse. Then after a day the light went off and problem stopped, no********. That was a week ago and now it happened again. It happened this morning when I was reversing my car, my check engine light came on and it has been******** all day. When I try and accelearting it feels like I am having to press the gas pedal harder to get it to go. And all my fluid levels (transmission, oil, radiator fluid) are fine. Whats wrong?

The first thing you need to do is have the computer scanned for codes at a auto parts store like auto zone and let me know the exact code you have.

Well my brother just bought himself and OBD reader, so hes going to hook it up on monday to get the codes. But yesterday when he was looking at the car, when we lifted the hood we heard a hissing sound, like air escaping somewhere. It was a faint hissing. This car is frustrating me I bought it a 2 months ago and it was inspected and had no problems.
Thanks for your help I will let you know what the code is on monday after my brother connects the OBD reader thing.

Wait my bro checked it. The code we got was a p0717. I googled it, something about a sensor malfunction. Is that an expensive fix for a kia?

When the code is active it goes into fail safe mode and the transmission stays in 3rd or second gear that would explain the lack of power. There are many different things that can be wrong and depending on what it is will depend on how much it will cost to fix it. Your best bet is to take it somewhere you will need a advanced scanner that can read live transmission data a multimeter etc to diagnose this problem.

I would say no the reason the the car stays in the certain gears is to try to protect the transmission from further damage so you can get it repaired.

Well I brought my car to my mechanic. The problem has mysteriously gone away again. He said he is going to just replace the whole sensor, the sensor is 256$.
I thank you for your help!

Getting check engine light code P0501, already changed out the wheel speed sensor and the differential abs sensor. Cleared the code and drove the car light came back on same error message. I don't know if when I got into an accident it messed up some of the wires and maybe shorted out the on board computer. Please help

Drove home, parked car and it was fine. One hour later, backing out of my driveway, check engine light blinked 8 times, car running rough, then the little light came on that looked like the top part of the radiator and stayed on. Car really starting shaking when driving over 30 mph.I've parked it. What could be wrong? Is it still covered under Kia's 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty? Also my air bag light came on and stays on too! Please diagnose my problem.

Start by getting a scan done to check for trouble codes to understand what is causing the probem.

Most parts stores provides free scanning services. Let me know the exact trouble codes retrieved.

Engine Mechanical problem
2005 Kia Rio 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 70000 miles

Just had an oil change this past weekend. Filled it up with gas this morning and on the way home the check engine light came on. I'm not having any luck finding info on how to get the car to tell the codes so I can look them up.

Is the car still running the same? If so, make sure you tightened the fuel cap after getting gas. If it is loose, it will set an EVAP code in the computer turning the light on.

If it is tight, take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer. Most will do it for free, so there will be no money out of pocket for you.

Let me know what you find.

Joe

After installing a mushroom intake and replacing the cat with a set of Megan racing headers, I am receiving code P0100 and P0400. I've also purchased a spacer for the upper O2 sensor. Does anyone have any advice for me or how would I be able to eliminate the check engine light?
