Someone may have done something to this transmission but I see some oil around it and sometimes the reverse is a bit tricky and there is a bit of shaking taking off in first gear. Similar I guess to having a bad flywheel surface. I want to check the fluid level first and drain and fill, if you can provide instructions, please. This is a 15 wrx sti.

Hi,

There are two different 6-speed manual transmissions that were used. If you look at the directions below, I included the directions for the most commonly used one (TY75).

Take a look through the directions and let me know if the drains appear to be in a different place.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

There is a dipstick at the top of the transmission. You can access it from under the hood. It will be approximately centered right behind where the transmission and engine are mounted together. There is an L and F on the dipstick. You want it right on the F. The range between L and F is safe but it shouldn't go below L.

I attached a pic below. When you refill it, approximately 3 Quarts should fill it. I would start with 2.5 quarts and check it. Top it off as necessary.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

The pic above is for the transmission mentioned. It indicates a dipstick. If the vehicle has the TY85, it doesn't have a dipstick but instead a fill plug that is removed to determine the level. Since this is a manual transmission, the temperature doesn't play the same role as it does with an automatic. When checking, the level of the fluid should be at the bottom of the fill plug opening. See pic 1 below.

The remaining pics are the directions for draining and refilling the TY85 transmission. If you can't locate the dipstick, I suspect this is the one you have.

Let me know if this helps.

Take care,

Joe
