Changing my heating thermostat?

Hi
my mechanic adviced me to put a diesel ( heating thermostat ) instead of gas ( petrol one)
My car is lexus lx470 1998.it seems to overheat some times.

He ( my mechanic ) said that the diesel thermo will open sooner and make the engine cooler!!

Do you recommend me to acept his advice by putting the diesel one ???
Please help

no because diesel systems have different items to make them run hotter. YOu wan the recommended tsatt that goes for your car. If it still overheats then you need to get it pressure checked for a head/intake gasket leak.
