Hello. I recently replaced the head gasket on a 2003 Toyota Corolla 1.8L L4 engine. Used FelPro gaskets but aftermarket timing set. Replaced all the guides, new tensioner, and cam phaser. Set the timing to the correct positions (i.e. marks on the chain, TDC on cylinder 1, crank on block marking) All went back together as it should and rotated engine by hand 2 full rotations prior to installing covers and marks realigned as they should. Once all back together, I got a code of P1349 for the VVT bank 1. I replaced the VVT with a new one and still had the same issue. Checked the wiring, compression (i.e. cylinder pressure test and leak down) and all 4 cylinders help pressure with no leaks. Engine runs a little high rpm (14-1500rms but smoothly not rough idle at all ) in neutral and park but drops to normal 8-900 in drive (at stand still). I rechecked all the work, took the covers off and double checked timing etc. Now I am at a loss of where to look next? I'm suspect of the cam phaser as it is new but after market? I can get a new one but don't want to spend the time or work to replace it if not the issue? Any thoughts?
