Both back doors do not respond to central locking system. Is this normal for this car or is there some other reason for it? Front doors respond as expected when locked both by key and by button on fob.

May be a problem with the body control module, scan the system and see if there are any fault codes first.

Thank you for quick response. Not being mechanically minded & only on a student income (so as not to afford a mechanic here to take a look), I am not sure what you mean. In laymans terms please, what does a BCM look like & where do I find it?

The BMC is a small electronic control module, you will not be able to anything with it unless you have a scanner that can read it.
