When hose from cpv valve is disconnected, car will stay running, when connected it shuts off.

Hi,

I need you to try something. Connect the PCV and then remove the oil fill cap. See if it starts. If it does, we have a pressure issue in the crankcase. If it doesn't start, you may have a very rich fuel mixture requiring fresh air to enter the intake via the PCV for it to run.

When it is running, do you notice any fuel smells or gray smoke from the exhaust?

Try what I suggested and let me know the results. Also, if it does start with the oil cap removed, see if there seems to be excessive pressure coming from the opening.

Take care,

Joe

Removed oil cap, will start. Replaced oil cap ran for a minute and died. Have replaced spark plugs, spark plug boots, coil packs, PCV valve. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Did it stall after replacing the oil cap? If you leave it off, will it continue to run? If so, then we need to check the fuel pressure. If this is what is happening, I suspect we have a rich fuel mixture.

Here is a link that explains how to check fuel pressure. You will need a fuel pressure gauge, but most parts stores will lend one to you.

I attached the manufacturer's pressure specifications below.

Let me know. Also, let me know if the check engine light is staying on while the engine is running. If it is, let me know if you scanned the computer to see if there are diagnostic trouble codes. If you have, let me know what they are.

One last thing. Let me know if you by chance have a live data scan tool.

Take care,

Joe

It did stall out when the oil cap was put back on. Engine light is flashing. Code was coil packs, then codes were spark plugs. Replaced them, didn't solve problems.

At this point, we need to do one of two things. First, if you have a live data scanner, check to see what the short-term fuel trims are. If there is too much crankcase pressure, the fuel trims will show the computer trying to compensate for a lean mixture.

Or, since we have a concern about excessive crankcase pressure, we could perform a compression test to see if it is low.

Here is a link showing how to test compression. You will need a gauge, but most parts stores will lend one to you.

Also, let me know if the check engine light is still flashing and if the same cylinders are identified as having a misfire as before you replaced the plugs and coils.

Take care,

Joe
