I swapped a 2005 Manual 2.8L from a CTS into my 2007 Automatic because the timing chain jumped and I cannot get the car to start. I have spark, fuel and compression. The engine was running when I scavenged it from a unplateable 2005 Manual CTS.
i kept the 2007 ECU.

Well the interchange shows 2005-2006 using the same engine, but 2007 is on it is own.
Looks like the cam sensor, VVT sprocket and timing chain set is different. Maybe pop the valve cover and take a look, it is possible they changed something little that makes the older engine not work with the newer PCM. Hard to say because the interchange does not say which parts or why. Those are ones that show different using part numbers/years used.

The only difference I see is the 2007 have a VVT sprocket when the 2005 does not but the 2005 is VVT two timing chains have the same part number solenoids too.

If you have both engines there take a look at the cam sensor and they show two different part numbers for the sensor. It could be the only change but it could be enough to cause a problem with the swap if it gives a different signal format or level.
I show the front cover as the same part, maybe just swap the sensors over?

These are the different camshaft sensor numbers. Does not show they interchange.
