Hi I have a astra 2.2 ts 2002 mod, the alternator all of the sudden wouldnt start at work I push started it and got home after 20 mins, I parked it in the driveway got the alternator tested and found it faulty! Pulled it out, got another one (recondition one) and fitted it, the car will not start! I have checked spark ok coil pac ok fuel ok injectors ok, checked timming chain ok! I am now stumped, I then pulled the key apart to see maybe I have dropped the chip out of my key but its still there, now I dont know weather I have caused more problems pulling the key apart? PLEASE HELP!

These engine have a problem with cam and crank positron sensors did you at any time cross the battery and get a spark? if so you may have blown the main ECU fuse as well.

Here is a guide to help us

Please run down this guide and report back.

Running a diagnostic scan was my next option as I am baffled, my mate who is helping me out and is also more mechanical minded has pulled a sensor out from behind the starter motor, that I will checked out tomorrow! He believes its faulty, after running a meter on it, I will get another check done now its out, Is that the cam and crank position sensor? What did you mean by crossing the battery and getting a spark?

That should be the crank angle sensor the can angle sensor is in the head, crossing the battery. That is putting the battery in back to front or shorting the pos terminal to earth, that can blow a ECU fuse or even fry the ECU.

My car would not start so I called NRMA they checked for fuel and said that was fine then he checked the chip in the key and said that was fine then he checked the coil module and had power to 2 of the wires and then he pulled the coil module out and reconnected it to the wiring connector and put a spark plug into the module and had me wind the car over and said the module was no good so I went and got another module and still the car wont start it just winds over

Get a scan done and check for a crank or cam angle sensor fault, these are common problems with Astras.

It may be a faulty ignition switch, this will be attached to the back of the barrel and key (the ignition switch) you should be able to drop the steering column trim to test switch with a test light.

Hi there,

Best place to start is to check for power at the starter solinoid with the key on crank, if yes you have a faulty starter, if no, have the ignition switch check and get a scan for a faulty key reader, start here.
