Car will not start after being rear ended?

I have seen the fuel pumps go out after an accident, after you replaced the battery is the security light flashing when you try to start it. Also, if you turn the key on without cranking the engine over can you hear the fuel pump in the tank turn on for about 5 seconds? I would disconnect the battery overnight to see if that will reset the system.
