Car will not start

I left the house yesterday, came back and unloaded the car, went to try to leave to go to work and it wouldn't start up. We thought maybe it was the battery, but two different people couldn't jump it. The lights come on, radio and windows work, etc. There is a faint ticking when turning the key to start it. I'm not sure if it is a bad cell in the battery and if I should replace it, if it's the starter, or something me serious than that. What can I check to narrow down the issue? Is there a way for me to fix this problem alone? We really can't be out of a vehicle right now.

Hi,

If you aren't able to jumpstart it, I would start at the starter motor. Follow this link for testing the starter motor itself. All you need is a test light or multimeter.

Let me know what you find.
