Car will not park

I took my key out without the car in park and now it will not got into park at all.

Reinstall the key and turn it to the on position. Then try to move he shifter back into park. You could have a shift cable that has gone bad. Can you double check the year and model I do not show a caprice in 1997? I was going to get you some diagrams.

try putting the key back in the car, try turning it to on. If that works push down on the brake and try to shift it back into neutral or another gear selector. While holding down on the brake try to shift it back into park before turning off the key.
