Car wont idle

The motor has been built up(cam and head work). And it has a throttle body intake system. Can I advance the timming with the distributor like a pre computer car. Or will the computer have to have its values adjusted?

It's OBD1 but has opti spark ignition so it is NOT ADJUSTABLE
