Whenever I fill up my car. The gas pump will stop when it senses its full but when I turn the car on it is only 3/4 way full.

There are a few reasons this could happen. There could be a problem with the fuel tank venting, many times a fuel vapor vent hose has gotten clogged. The fuel level sender inside the fuel tank could have failed. The fuel tank would need to be removed to properly test the fuel level sender. The last thing I can think of would be the fuel gauge itself. You can self-test the cluster very easily to see if the fuel gauge goes through its full range. The test is as follows:

1. Begin the test with the ignition switch in the off position.
2. Depress the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) menu down scroll switch button. Number 5 in the diagram below
3. While still holding the scroll switch button depressed, turn the ignition switch to the ON position, but do not start the engine.
4. Release the switch button.
5. The instrument cluster will simultaneously begin to illuminate all of the operational segments in the LCD units and perform a bulb check of each operational LED indicator. The LCD segments and LED indicators remain illuminated as each gauge needle is swept to several calibration points and back. If an LCD segment or an LED indicator fails to illuminate, or if a gauge needle fails to sweep through the calibration points and back during this test, the instrument cluster must be replaced.

The self-test is now complete. The instrument cluster will automatically exit the self-diagnostic mode and return to normal operation at the completion of the test. The self test will be aborted if the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position, or if an electronic vehicle speed message indicating that the vehicle is moving is received over the CAN data bus during the test.

Go back to Step #1 to repeat the test, if necessary.
