Hello, whoever it is that can help me. I just want to say if you can understand my ranting and raving and help me figure this out. You are flipping awesome. Anyway, my car will start but it will not run. To make a long story short, about three weeks ago it had some misfires. I went to Autozone, they diagnosed it and said it was spark plugs numbers three, four and five. On the way home, which is only about a mile, it would not rev up past 2200 rpm and maxed out at about thirty mph. So when I got home I replaced the spark plugs and ignition coils for number four and five, but did not have the money for the coil for number three. So that will arrive in the mail tomorrow and I will change it out. To continue, three days ago, the car was misfiring but running like usual, my wife dropped me off at work, which is only about a mile from home but down a hill. After she dropped me off, she stalled out about half way up the hill and walked back to me and said it would not run. I went to get the car and it would crank over but instantly shut off. I then cranked it over hit the gas, it quickly rev'ed up to 3000 rpm and I dropped it into reversed and it ran in reverse so I turn into a side street so I could put it in drive and park it at my job but it stalled. So I did the same thing but put it into drive and it ran at fifteen mph until I got to my job. So at that point it would run but if you tried to idle it would stall out. So a friend told me that it was probably the fuel filter from the way I described it, so I brought one and some fuel injection cleaner, switched it out, put in the cleaner and it ran for like thirty seconds and continued the same way, but I just drove it home. After that it would not run at all. It would crank over, sound like it wants to run but instantly shut down. Now if you try to hit the gas it will spike up to about 2000 rpm's but (even if you hold the pedal to the floor) then just putter at around 500 rpm's for ten to thirty seconds and then shut off. So another friend told me since I do not have much money to hollow out the catalytic converter since he thought that would fix it, but everything I found online told me not to do that, so I did not. I found someone online with a similar issue and they said they cleaned the air intake valve (or whatever it is called) with a toothbrush and that fixed it, so I tried that instead. So that did not work but just to check and see, I tried running the car without the air hose connected to the valve and it idled at about 1000 rpm's and did not shut down, so I tried to connect the hose with the car running and as soon as the hose covered the valve, it shut off. When it ran you could still hear the misfires (from spark plug number three that I still need to change) and that is higher than it normally idles, but I just assumed that was due to the amount of air it was getting. Also, I did notice some foggy/dusty looking air coming out of the hose and I traced that back but that came from a little hose connect to the air hose that traces back to a port sticking out of the top right of the engine. So I am not sure if that is just some fuel getting mixed into the air or some engine exhaust emissions control or what that is from. So before I spent any other money or did something else that could or could not fix it (or encase I am just totally wrong), I just wanted to try and get some help from someone other than my friends who are not mechanics. So I was thinking maybe the air filter is clogged or the throttle body was going bad. Any (good) advice would be a great help. By the way, my name is Dave and I just want to say thank you in advance.
