Car will not go into drive

My car will not switch into drive. When I put it into drive it seems like it stays in neutral and the engine just revs. However, it switches into reverse fine with no problem. What could cause this problem?

Before this started happening the neutral light use to blink on and off.

Check transmission fluid if you can. If you can and it is dark brown or black probably time for a rebuild. You more than likely need this done and best bet is to have a transmission professional look at this.
