The car shakes and a mechanic said the compression is low on cylinder 6 and that is not worth fixing. I just wonder if he is right? He says to just get a new engine block.

Welcome to 2CarPros. The first thing to do would be to run a compression check yourself, then a leak down test to see what area is losing the compression.

for the compression test. The leak-down test will put air into the cylinder, with it at top dead center on compression the air will leak out through the area that is the problem, If you hear the air blowing out of the intake you have a bad intake valve, if it's out the tailpipe the exhaust valve is leaking. If you see bubbles in the radiator the head gasket is suspect. If the air flow freely out the dipstick tube then it is an issue in the piston rings.
I would do those tests or have another shop do them, just to be sure you are being told the truth. The tools can be borrowed from many parts stores.
The 6.2 has had issues with the valve train dropping valves and damaging the engine due to the active fuel management used on it so it is very possible the engine is bad. But it would be possible that it could be saved, depending on what failed.
