Sounds like you have an issues with the mechanical connection between the engine and transmission or the drivetrain from the transmission to the wheels.
Was the pop a single pop and do you hear any grinding noises now? I know you said a loud noise but if it is grinding then that is most likely a spline component.
If it was a single pop and noises now, then we need to see if the output shaft to the transmission is spinning when in gear. Basically this will tell us if the input or output shaft inside the transmission are the issue. If you have movement coming out of the transmission then we have a possible axle issue.
You will want to put the vehicle on jack stands and lay on the ground next to it. You should not need to get under the vehicle. You just want to inspect under it first for any components that are hanging down because if they are spinning and hitting the other components around them you clearly don't want to be close to that.
If you want to get a recording of the noise, that should help.
Were you driving aggressively when this happened? If so, I suspect the input splines are the issue.
Let me know and we can go from there. Thanks
