I just bought the car a few days ago. It was doing good until today. The car hesitated to start this morning at first. Second time it started normally. Then I went to Sonic to eat. While I was parked there the car cut off. I can’t remember if the radio and stuff was still on or not. The battery dash light and another dash light came on when this happen. I turned the key to off. I went to restart the car, it would crank but it wouldn’t start. I’m not sure if it would be the battery, starter, alternator, or what.

Hi,

It could be a few things. If the battery is still strong enough to turn the start and engine, then no to the battery, starter and alternator.

First, since it once had a delayed start but did start and now it won't start, it sounds fuel related to me. That would be where I would start checking.

Here is a link that explains in general how to test fuel pressure:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

I need to know if this is the 2.0L or 2.4L engine to provide the specifics on fuel pressure and exact procedures for testing.

If after the general test you find there is proper fuel pressure, then I need you to check for spark to the plugs. Here is a link that shows how that is done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-an-ignition-system

Now, the easiest way to determine if it is an ignition issue or a fuel related issue is by checking if the engine will start for a couple seconds using starting fluid. If it does and then stalls, we know it is fuel related.

Do this and let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,
Joe

Hello,

This could be a problem with your vehicle's Crankshaft Position Sensor[CKP]. In the diagrams down below I have included the description of operation and the instructions for the removal and installation of the CKP for your vehicle. Please go through these guides and get back to us with how everything turns out.

Thanks,
Alex
