Car stalls repeatedly when started warm?

The car will stall repeatedly when started warm. As soon as you put it in gear it will stall. Sometimes five or six times. It will always immediately restart and I can eventually get it in gear and drive away. This will not happen when started cold and usually only when you try to restart after letting it sit for a half hour or so.

What happens if you hold the accelerator pedal down 1/4"? Will the engine stay running? Does it tend to stall at stop signs? Finally, was the battery recently disconnected for replacement of some other service?
